These days it’s pretty easy to build a website yourself without spending thousands of dollars on a custom site or without writing a single line of code. There are many different website builders out there that it can be daunting and confusing when choosing which to build your website on. Showit and Squarespace and two popular website builders today that many business owners are gravitating towards when building their own website.
Website designers will argue which platform is the best, but depending on your business needs it’s important to compare all of the available platforms (such as WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, & Showit). Both have their pros and cons so it’s important to look at your business and analyze what your business needs are. Do you need to integrate an online booking system? Show off a portfolio? Create an online shop? What about layout design and ease of use, how important are those to you?
Both Showit & Squarespace are easy to use website builders that require zero coding knowledge, but they each have their own unique features. The goal behind both of these website builders is to offer a platform that makes it easy for non-tech savy business owners to update their website.
In this article, we will look at both the pros and cons of Showit vs Squarespace to help you better understand the differences and similarities between the two website builders.
I have experience using Showit and Squarespace to design websites but recently have completely made the switch over to Showit – and I’ll detail why I made the switch below!
Ok, so the first question you probably have is whether you should use Showit or Squarespace for your business website. It’s definitely a commitment and can seem daunting at first, especially since there is so much information out there. Now, let’s look at why you might want to use Showit to DIY your website yourself.
Showit is 100% customizable unlike other website builders. When you’re building your website in Showit, you get to start from scratch and drag & drop your content.
It’s super easy to add your own fonts and colors to stay on brand. Google fonts are included in Showit but you have the ability to easily upload custom fonts.
Another unique feature of using Showit is that you’re able to customize the mobile view however you would like and can even make it completely different compared to the desktop view.
Overall, with Showit you have complete design freedom to create whatever layout your heart desires without the need for coding or a template.
My favorite thing about Showit is the drag & drop interface, which is really similar to Adobe illustrator. The only code you’ll have to manage is adding in embedded email forms or contact forms, which is super easy to do. If you are a more advanced user, Showit allows for custom CSS and Javascript in case you want to add fancier CSS effects or animations.
WordPress is the golden standard for SEO and blogging, so it’s such a great feature that WordPress is integrated with Showit. The Showit team can take care of migrating or setting up your new blog for you in WordPress and then it seamlessly works with your site.
Showit has some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced for a website builder before. They help integrate wordpress, setup your domain, and migrate blog posts for you. They even have a full forum of helpful information and tutorials so you can always find an answer to your question.
I recently just joined the Showit designers facebook group and have seen great threads and support from the group so far.
I wouldn’t recommend Showit for a huge ecommerce site, but if you wish to sell a few products then Shopify Lite easily integrates with Showit. You simply need to create a Shopify account and generate a purchase button that will be added to your Showit site.
This feature is amazing for website designers because we are able to design as many stand alone sites within Showit as we like. When designing for a client, we can design the entire website and then transfer it over to the client’s library when it’s finished.
Similar to Showit, Squarespace is a codeless platform, and websites are built from universal templates that are easy to customize. However, Squarespace customization is limited unless you can code CSS.
Squarespace also has an amazing support team to answer any questions and help with any technology questions. Because Squarespace is so popular, there are many articles and resources available online for tutorials or answers to any issues.
The mobile view for Squarespace is automatically generated, so you don’t need to spend time creating the mobile view like Showit.
If you wish to customize your mobile view, you can’t do so in Squarespace
Squarespace comes with a built-in ecommerce platform, but is limited in functionality.
Now that you know all the pros and cons of each platform, I want you to think deep about your business and what functionality is most important to you.

Showit and Squarespace offer free trials so I highly recommend signing up for both if you are still on the fence about which one to use for your online website. Both platforms are great to use for DIY-ing an online website but as you can see they both have their pros and cons. I hope this article was helpful and makes your decision a little bit easier.
